What does the what, and is it January 32?
The Rolling Stones of the 2020s?
Our older children just finished playing “What Does the Fox Say?” It appears to have a half life of around 300,000 years.
I will say that I have come to appreciate the band Ylvis as being more than a one hit wonder, thanks in only part to our children. I love hearing them play, especially when they're laughing. Weird. I guess most parents love the sound of their kids whining or fighting or crying. I’m so weird that way.
1985.
Our 15yo this morning was singing “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” I'd like to think it's because my secret indoctrination to really good music from the ‘80s is paying off. I love the sound of her voice talking or conducting her brothers, and also singing. More!

Our 12yo has gone full tilt doing what he does best: going full tilt with the thing he’s into. In this case, Chess.
When some people think of Prodigy they think of chess kid whiz Bobby Fischer. When I think of Prodigy I think of their punky electronic from 1994 and the twinkling fire of The Heat and Voodoo People. That’s what I first think of. But maybe that will change with the new sport in our home. Yes, it is a sport, I am told. I don’t write that snarkily. I’ve learned to appreciate Ylvis and am learning to appreciate, if not completely and totally understand…Chess.
The Wormwoods.
Our daughter's friend came this afternoon to watch Matilda for a literature assignment. Our daughter was only one of the children excited to see her. There was also giddiness on the part of humans ages three and six. The 12yo engaged in targeted, practiced, completely sincere indifference as he rehearsed and studied how Bishops and Knaves - Knights? - can pal up to destroy a Queen.
This was also our daughter’s friend’s longest solo drive. We are honored to be the end destination - or at least the Point B on her Home to Us to Home loop. Thankfully she wasn’t driving a vehicle purchased from a Wormwood, so I believe her roundtrip journey was successful and without unfortunate incident.
The Michelangelo of This.
The boys and I painted, and then made chocolate chip walnut cookies. That is something I'm good at: Baking, specifically, baking with children, specifically, baking cookies with children.
Actually, two of those are true. I'm good at baking with children and good at baking chocolate chip cookies with children.
I'm not necessarily good at baking.
But I can combine those two activities in a way that's fun and occasionally, occasionally works from a culinary perspective. Occasionally.
Harold Bloom’s favorite phrase.
Our 6yo’s BOB book reading is going super, to use a literary term.
Room temp.
Today was not only sunny, but it was sort of warm. I'll take that on a January 32nd.
Post-Greenspan world.
Also, the Fed raised rates just a quarter of a point. Markets popped. Ethereum is over 1,600.
