Film recommendations - overview
I love good stories. Books were my first love and remain so, but cinema follows close behind. Movies are also a way that our family spends time together. Not grazing through various shows and television offerings, but choosing to make the act of watching a film something meaningful. That is the aim, anyway.
I’ve listed below various films that I think do a couple things well:
They’re good stories. In other words, they’re interesting and entertaining.
They have some redeeming value. I’m a big fan of sneaky education that’s woven into every part of life. So these films have something redemptive or educational, or are simply a good touchstone or starting point for dialog, conversation, and discussion.
And I believe strongly that vibrant dialog, conversation, and discussion is a cornerstone for healthy families.
Note: at some point perhaps I’ll break things down a little more specifically into different ages, and note things such as language, violence, sexual content, mature themes, etc. But there’s already great sites, such as Common Sense Media, that do that. The following are more of my personal curated lists of ones we’ve either watched together as a family at different stages…or plan to soon. Thanks and enjoy!
