What is above is not necessarily reflective of what is underneath.

What is above is
not necessarily reflective of what is underneath.

What is bright on the surface
might be dark deep down;
it probably is, as that is nature,

and human nature is a kind of geology; we are

formations who are complex and complicated and evolving,

yet we also have agency and choice and the ability to fight entropy, knowing we will lose,

but that in the fight, the valiant fight in which our lights will flicker at the end - that what we do in the fight is worthwhile;

that it matters,
that it has meaning,
that it brings a little more light to the world

as we dance to the edge of night; as we sink to the ground we can look to the skies,

the heavens, and find paradoxic peace in battling, in having battled

not merely to make our own lives longer,
but to make the lives of earth and inhabitants richer.
