Down to bare metal : I write haiku at Les Schwab Tires.

Interior of Les Schwab Tire Center, with book, Yeti mug, G2 gel pen, and iPad

Come back
There is a long line
Tires don’t last forever.
Or brakes and rotors.

Two hours later
I return with car
hand her my wife’s Honda keys
Hour and a half?

Reading in public
I read Great Gatsby
Or rather, analysis
Appreciate more.

Man with child
Small son on his lap
Phone for dad, iPad for boy
An Ice Age movie.

They keep coming
‘So…I’m sorry, sir.’
He gives the old man the news:
‘Down to bare metal.’

News?
Voter fraud on news
Florida felons fail
Fox News doesn’t, right?

12.59pm
Nine others are here
Four on phones, three in a line
One mask and three hats.

1.01pm
Three of them women
Do the math on the others
Worker talks on phone

1.03pm
‘Five hours?!’ Man yells
All are in their mid-sixties
I am forty-six.

Phone worker
‘How are you?’ Man asks
‘Living the dream,’ worker says,
Says with a smile.

Uh-oh
I pull out iPad,
bump something, it blares hip hop*
I try to turn off.
