Incomplete thoughts on a unified theory of existence.

On Conversation

The important thing is to start conversation.

Not to control conversation.

It’s okay for conversation to drift and shift. But be respectful of the topic and the tenor.

There’s a time for each, including controlling. But if you don’t make intelligent decisions about when each is appropriate, it makes you come across as boorish, uninteresting, lazy, and possibly stupid.

Also, “insipid” is an underrated word.

Two people with whom I will spend a lifetime engaging in delicious conversation, and from whom I have gleaned much about life.

On Books

Keep something to read in every room of your home. Seriously. it will help your brain to stay active.

More on conversation

A conversation should be a symbiotic dialogue, an exchange of ideas. It should not merely be one person proving ‘Expertness.’

on Appreciation

You can appreciate something without necessarily being talented at it. For example, you can appreciate good humor without actually being funny yourself.

On Competition

Prove something to yourself. Don’t worry about proving it to anyone else.
